Methodology
How Cauri Charts charts are built
Cauri Charts ranks West African music from listening figures. Each week we measure how many times a song was played or viewed from Monday to Sunday, add these figures with a public formula, and publish the result on Tuesday.
Where the figures come from
We read the public platform counters every day (YouTube, Audiomack, Boomplay and others depending on the country). When a platform does not share its data, we accept declarations from artists and labels, provided they can be cross-checked against public data.
How the score is computed
Each audio stream is worth one point. Each view of an official video is worth half a point. We only count the growth of the week, not the total since release, so a new song can beat an old one.
| Source | Weight |
|---|---|
| Audio streams (Audiomack, Boomplay, others) | 1,0 |
| Official YouTube views | 0,5 |
| Validated, cross-checked declarations | 1,0 |
Platform charts (methodology v1.2): each day on a platform chart, such as a country’s Apple Music Top, earns position points (100 for No. 1, 1 for the last place), averaged over the week and multiplied by the platform weight. They only count once the formula giving them a weight takes effect.
To enter a country's Top 5, a song needs data from at least 2 sources. Otherwise it is capped just below.
In the West Africa chart, at most 5 songs by artists from the same country make the Top 20; that country's next songs move down just below the Top. No country, not even the biggest market, takes all the room.
Ties are broken by number of sources, then biggest weekly growth, then last week's score.
Announced change: formula v2 takes effect on Oct 12, 2026. Méthodologie v1.2 : les positions dans les classements Apple Music, Audiomack et Boomplay rapportent des points (150 par point de position, à valider après quatre semaines).
The charts
- Prime Chart : The main chart of the week
- Buzz Chart : The biggest gains
- Fresh Chart : New releases and emerging artists
- Icon Chart : The artist ranking
- Legend Chart : The all-time total since launch
- Prime Chart Afrique de l'Ouest : The combined chart of the countries covered
An artist is ranked in the country where they submit their music. The country where they are most played is shown separately on their page. Video, official audio, lyric and live versions of a song count together.
Tracking week: Monday 00:00 to Sunday 23:59, Lomé time. Computed on Monday, reviewed, published on Tuesday. Monthly charts come out on the first Tuesday of the following month.
What we check
A song whose figures jump without explanation (more than 5 times its median of the last four weeks) is reviewed before publication. A declaration more than 30% away from public data is checked. An abnormal ratio between views and likes triggers a review. Data that cannot be verified does not count. Songs removed for anomalies are listed below with the reason.
Our position
Cauri Charts is part of Novaluz Group, which includes the Nova Luz label. That label's artists carry a badge and follow exactly the same rules. Nobody at Cauri Charts can move a song by hand.
